NEW YORK, New York – Two iconic, family-owned brands, Orvis and Barbour, have come together to create a capsule of re-engineered Barbour pieces exclusive to Orvis in celebration of Barbour’s 125th anniversary and their longstanding retail partnership. In addition to Barbour’s Icons Re-Engineered main collection, Orvis will offer three exclusive Barbour iconic jackets that have been re-imagined in contemporary fits and styles for Autumn/Winter 2019.
The re-engineered jackets, exclusive to Orvis, include the men’s Ursula Jacket, originally designed for the Royal Navy. In 1937, Captain George Phillips took command of the HMS Ursula submarine. Unsatisfied with the standard issue Royal Navy oilskin uniform for submariners, Capt. Phillips commissioned and paid for Barbour two-piece suits for the whole HMS Ursula crew. These then became standard issue for those keeping watch in Royal Navy submarines (the “Silent Service”). The iconic, heavy-duty, heavyweight 8-oz. cotton jacket updates the archive design with a contemporary slim fit, while retaining the original military styling.
The Ursula is just one of three Orvis-exclusive anniversary jackets that are available this fall. The other two are the men’s Beauchamp and the women’s Bedale. In celebration of the collection and Barbour’s 125th anniversary, Orvis is hosting a happy hour at their retail location at 489 5th Avenue, New York, New York, from 3-7 p.m. EST on Thursday, September 26. Orvis-exclusive Barbour pieces will be available for purchase. The event is free and open to the public.
Attendees will be entered to win a special edition Barbour Range Rover County that will make its debut at the New York event and be given away in 2020 through the third annual Orvis Barbour Land Rover Sweepstakes. The fully restored Rover will hit the road in September, visiting Orvis stores and adventure locations.
